Patient: Jessica West
Diagnosis: Cervical Spondylosis with Radiculopathy (neck pain going down her left arm and pinky numbness)
Procedure: C7-T1 Total Disc Replacement
This is Ms. Jessica West. She had a C7-T1 total disc replacement two weeks ago. So can you tell us what you were feeling before surgery?
It was a lot of pain in my neck and my shoulder and my back and it radiated all down my arm and these two fingers were numb. This one was completely numb at all times and I was loosing strength in my hand. It was just very uncomfortable.
Okay, and you had the surgery, that I mentioned earlier, two weeks ago. What did you feel after the surgery?
Right after the surgery, I was okay. For the first two days, the first 48 hours, there was pretty intense pain but not horrible pain but pretty bad, but then I woke up on the third day and I started feeling better and it was like pretty amazing actually. Everyday I felt a little better than the day before, it is very encouraging.
Good and how was your experience with Dr. Gottlieb?
I love Dr. Gottlieb. I was ready to do the surgery like seven years ago when I went to him and he was like, “woah, woah, woah! You are 29, you know what, I don’t want to fuse you, I do not want you to lose mobility in your neck”, so I trusted him and I listened to him and we made it seven years without surgery and I finally this time, he said “it is time because you are losing strength in your hand”. So, I trust him. I think he is just super smart and very good with what he does and I think he genuinely cares about me, my future, and my well being as a person and doctor. I love him.
